The answer is No. -Because of the way the loc extension is created. My loc extensions are constructed in a very abstract way—-wrappping, braiding, and knotting. The ending result is a head full of natural looking locs. Hair is not added later and no special treatment required. I’ve started many loc extensions with client who have permed hair. The fact is: the loc extension will be added on top of the hair; so the kinky hair growing out the scalp will only be shown as it grows out.
I get this question quite a bit and it’s okay. How often should I wash and twist it? Well, I always start out by explaining there are several types of locked folks. There’s the client who love their locs neat and groomed all the time. Oftentimes, this client may come back every week or two. And then there’s the client who may come every every three weeks to get interlocking (which normally last for about 3 months) and then there’s several in between clients who may go back and forth. I had locs for 8 years and I always would wash every week but twist once a month. The answer to this question would be that, “everyone is different.” And the beautiful thing about loc extensions is that you don’t have any special instructions just because you have them. The same rules to traditionally grown locs applies to my loc extensions. When you spend the few hours with me for your loc extension service, I absolutely love talking about your journey and educate you on all you’ll need to know! loc extensions (after) What are loc extensions? Loc extensions are locs that were created on a client. Not sewn on or weaved into. Actually created on the client’s hair with kinky hair. It’s a process thats extremely abstract—in my opinion. It involves braiding and wrapping and knotting. Over the years, I’ve found that loc extensions are never two of the same. A client will ask for loc extensions to look this way. And his or her loc extensions will retake the shape they want. I’ve seen abstract clients get loc extensions and they’re locs turn extremeley abstract—-a reflection of themselves. I say this to say, loc extensions get a client/you to a point but the natural transition will come—-naturally regardless. With loc extensions, I’m able to give clients the length they desire. I can also give them the size they desire too however this area is sensitive—with me anyways. It’s my job (as the loctician) to determine what’s best for the client. For example, I had a potential client was very large locs (she showed me a photo). In the photo, the woman had large thick plump locs. The client had very thin and soft hair. As the professional, […]
