I had my popcorn tonight watching The First Lady, Michelle Obama grace the set with Dave Letterman. She’s so eloquent. Before Michelle, there were only two women I could put on the pedestal for being most in tuned to their powers as a woman: my Grandmother and Felicia Rashaad’s role as ‘Claire Huxtable.’
Esperanza Spalding did her thing on the base, free styling a ginormous afro and sprinkling a jazzy spiritual for the first time, “Radio Song,” throughout the New York crowd.
I’m so happy she decided to rock it old school disco style. So many new naturals are not comfortable with wearing their natural “real natural.” No roller set. No “curly kinky crinckled tickled and slightly pickled cream” added.
I loved it.
The more something like this is adored, the more it’ll be excepted psychologically in “our” brains ladies.
The African American woman has gone on many roads, rivers, and flights with her hair. Now I understand everyone in the world isn’t going to be natural; it’s still nice to see change.
